Plaque and tartar (calculus) stain teeth and feed the bacteria that cause infection, decay, and gum disease. A professional cleaning removes these deposits to keep your mouth healthy — quick, comfortable, and done in a single visit.
How a cleaning works
Using a small mirror, we check for plaque and tartar buildup, then perform two steps:
- Scaling: removing hardened plaque and tartar from the teeth.
- Root planing: a deeper cleaning within the gum pockets, recommended if you have gum disease.
Finishing touches
We polish your teeth for a bright finish and floss professionally to remove anything left between teeth. If you have sensitivity, we may apply a fluoride treatment.
After-care
Brush, floss, and rinse daily to keep plaque and tartar from returning, watch your diet, and limit smoking.
