Fast, gentle relief when a dental emergency strikes — toothaches, broken teeth, knocked-out teeth, and more.
The best way to handle a dental emergency is to prevent one, but accidents and infections still happen. Some emergencies can be managed at home for a short time; others need immediate attention. Either way, call us right away so we can relieve your pain and protect your tooth.
Common emergencies and what to do first
- Toothache: rinse with warm salt water to loosen trapped food, floss gently, and use a cold compress for swelling.
- Broken tooth: save the pieces, rinse your mouth with salt water, and apply gauze for about 10 minutes if there is bleeding.
- Chipped tooth: rinse with warm water and protect the inside of your mouth with gauze.
- Knocked-out tooth: rinse the tooth, try to place it back in the socket, or keep it in a cup of milk and call us immediately.
- Lost crown or filling: keep the restoration, cover the exposed area with gauze, and avoid dental adhesive.
- Abscess: rinse with salt water and use a cold compress — an abscess can spread, so seek care quickly.
