Know the most common dental emergencies and the right first steps before you reach us.
Dental injuries can happen at any time, often without warning. Quick action makes a difference. When an emergency strikes, call our clinic right away and we will guide you on next steps and see you as soon as possible.
Toothaches
Rinse your mouth with warm salt water and gently floss to remove any trapped food. A cold compress on the outside of your cheek can ease pain and swelling until we see you.
Soft-tissue injuries
Injuries to the cheek, tongue, or lips can bleed and feel alarming. Rinse with salt water, apply gentle pressure with clean gauze, and use a cold compress. If bleeding is severe, contact us at once.
Chipped or broken teeth
Chipped or broken teeth can cause pain and bleeding. Rinse your mouth, apply gauze to any bleeding, and call us. We restore teeth with bonding, fillings, or a crown depending on the damage.
Knocked-out teeth
Hold the tooth by the crown — not the root — and rinse it gently without scrubbing. If you can, place it back in the socket; otherwise keep it in milk and come in immediately for the best chance of saving it.
Abscess
A dental abscess is an infection around the root of a tooth. It can be serious if it spreads to the jaw, so seek treatment quickly. A cold compress can help manage discomfort in the meantime.
