Gentle, comfortable tooth removal when a tooth cannot be saved.
Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket. Decay, injury, infection, or crowding can make removal the healthiest option. Acting promptly prevents an infection from spreading to nearby teeth.
When extraction is recommended
- Infection has reached deep into the tooth and jawbone.
- Severe injury or trauma to the tooth.
- Not enough room for all teeth, or baby teeth that did not fall out in time.
- Removal of wisdom teeth.
How we prepare
We take X-rays to understand the length, shape, and size of the tooth and surrounding bone, then choose the best removal method. We numb the area with a local anesthetic; for more complex cases we may use IV sedation, in which case you will need someone to drive you home.
After your extraction
Keeping the area clean prevents infection. Bite gently on the sterile gauze for 30 to 45 minutes to control bleeding, and follow your aftercare instructions. Avoid smoking, hard foods, and very hot or cold drinks for a few days. Any discomfort usually fades within a few days.
